Frugal Fridays

On the first Friday (or thereabouts) of nearly every month church members hold a frugal supper or lunch to which they invite friends and neighbours and to which church members are also welcome. In theory these are simple bread and cheese meals although they are often embellished!
At the end of the meal people are invited to donate what they think they might have spent on food had they eaten at home instead. People are invariably more generous than this.
The money is divided between the Wivelsfield Village Fund and the church on a roughly 2 to 1 basis. The Village Fund pays for items which enhance the facilities of the community but which would not be met out of the village precept. Most recently money raised by the church has contributed towards new sports storage facilities on the village green. One wall of this incorporates a goal post frame against which children can kick footballs - rather than using the pavilion!!. There is a plaque on the wall which acknowledges the contribution of the church.
Since Frugal Fridays started in 2010 the amount raised for the village is (as at the end of 2014) £2227 whilst the church has benefitted to the sum of £1209.
Details of the time and place of Frugal Fridays appear in the Parish Magazine each month.
