A church thrives on the body of volunteers who get involved and make things happen. If you can give of your time and talents in just one area this means that we are not reliant on only a few people who typically then do everything. Offering to help will not mean that you are then asked to do everything, but the more offers, the more the workload is shared. The below will give you a flavour of areas where you can help.
What do we need volunteers to do?
Welcome the congregation, hand out hymn books , take the collection and help people to find seats if necessary, tidy away after the service. This is the brief role of the Steward or Sidesman. We ask that you be in church about 1/2 hour before a service to welcome the congregation and you will be delayed about 20 minutes afterwards finishing up. At the 10.30 service there are always a minimum of two Stewards.
The 10.30 and 6.00pm services have a rota for readers. Evensong usually comes around once every other month and the 10.30 Eucharist once every three or four months. There are special services where we need readers, so if you dont want to read regulalry but would be willing to do so occasionally please let us know. There is a book in church to help with pronunciations. While we usually read from the big Bibles (KJV) on the lectern, a reader can read from their own Bible should they wish.
Our enthusiastic choir lead by our director of music sings at the 10.30 Eucharist service each week, accompanied by our magnificant church organ. They also sing at special services and three or four times a year at a Choral Evensong. New members are always welcome. The committment besides the service is choir practice on a Thursday evening - 6.45 for Junior Choir and 7.15 for Adult Choir.

Leaders for the prayers of intercession (the formal prayers during the 10.30 service) are always welcome. To be trained in this please contact the churchwardens . We also have prayer ministry where at the 10.30 service during communion someone will be available in the chancery chapel to pray with you if you wish. At other services there may be someone available, they will have a badge to idenitfy themselves and are happy to spend a few minutes after the service to pray with you or just sit and listen. Prayer Chain - one way that a prayer list can join up is electronically. If you have email and would like to join the distribution list for weekly intercessions please email email@example.com . She will add you to the list so that you can combine the weekly intercessions with your daily prayers, or if there is an urgent call for prayes, you will be able to join in the chain.
A Server helps assist the Minister with the preparation of the altar for a service, they also help during the service and tidy away at the end. A Server who is also a trained Lay Minister can help to deliver communion. The rotas for the servers are prepared by the Jane Hill, if you wish to know more or how to become a lay minister please speak to The sacristan /verger Robert Wood woodr64@googlemail or a churchwarden.
Our flower arrangers do a wonderful job in beautifying the church. This is carreid out on a rota basis with some events requiring all hands to the pumps such as Easter. If you would like to join them please contact Sheila Lay 471482
The Wivelsfield Bells ring each week to welcome you to our services. They meet on Thursday nights between 8.00 9.15pm for practice. They are keen to include new ringers so if you fancy pulling on the ropes, come along and they will show you how. ORGANISE EVENTS AND HELP WITH MAINTENANCE
We have several committees that report to the Parochial Church Council (PCC)
Organise fellowship and fund raising events such as the harvest supper or summer fete. If you have an idea you would like to bring forward to raise money or just for some fun or would just like to help out with these events please contact Marion at Marion.Whear@btinternet.com know.
Marion would also like to hear from you if you are able to join the rota for making coffee after the 10.30 service. The Coffee, Tea and sugar is provided. You need to bring milk and any cakes or biscuits that you wish to offer. Expenses can be covered from the donations made.
The Fabric Committee looks after the maintenance of the church building. If you are able to offer to help with occasional decorating or handiman tasks please speak to Robert Wood who will be pleased to let you know when you can hlep out with jobs that need doing. woodr64@googlemail
If you can help with cleaning the church on a rota basis please contact Paula Wood on 471242 firstname.lastname@example.org The cleaning is dusting, hoovering, cleaning the church room and toilet. It is not particularly onerous but is necessary to keep the church welcoming. Twice a year we have a cleaning day when all come and help and a deep clean is carried out. If you can help with either events we would be most grateful.
This committee consider the service pattern and special events such as healing services. This committee is coordianted by David Billam on 459551. Please speak to him if you have thoughts and ideas as to the way that we worship at Wivelsfield.
If you would like to help with the childrens activities (supervising the creche, running a childrens service or helping out at JAM) please speak to Caroline Cannell, Sarah Cox email@example.com . Please note that anyone helping with one to one children activities or in charge of children will have to be DBS checked before your offer of help can be accepted.

There are some members of the congregation who would love to attend church but are not able to drive. If you can pick someone up who needs a lift this is much appreciated. Please contact Penny Sullens firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help. It may be that for some of the people that a DBS may be needed (eg if you are collecting an under 18 or a resident from a nursing home). This would not be every week but on a rota basis.
